Question 2
Do any of the following concern you about working Out of Hours?
A:
How do I pay the bills if I am only working one week in three?
There is no need to worry - working Out of Hours can offer you a real opportunity to enjoy up to 35 non-working weeks a year, whilst earning a salary that’s the same as or better than a daytime role. Because we appreciate the skill required to work Out of Hours, our rates of pay are excellent! A MiNightVet position can offer you the opportunity to work a one week in three rota pattern (one week on, two weeks off) for a similar salary to a full time day vet/nurse position. We pay your RCVS and VDS fees and provide a generous CPD allowance (fully supporting certificates too!). Our contracts also offer maternity pay, pension, staff discounts and much more!
B:
How will I cope with working nights?
It’s natural to have some concerns about working nights if you haven’t ever done so before. Will you cope with staying up all night? Will you be able to sleep during the day? The truth is that working nights is not for everybody, and even those who love it will often say that it takes a little bit of getting used to. But, don’t worry – we can provide guidance and support to ensure that you transition to working nights in the right way, and to support your wellbeing as you continue to work Out of Hours. There are plenty of resources outside of MiNightVet to help as well. Our teams stay awake all night (except during their 60 minute rest period), to ensure that our in-patients are cared for as though they were our own – but they are not trying to take care of cases Out of Hours on top of working full days as well. Instead, our teams are offered regular, long blocks of time-off shift to recuperate and enjoy genuine quality time with family, their horses, train for a marathon or with a shovel in hand in the garden (whatever their personal interests and passions may be!).
C:
I am looking for a better work life balance – can working Out of Hours offer me this?

So, if you fancy building a house, taking up a new sport or hobby or just having time to BE, then working Out of Hours can offer you a real opportunity to make it happen!
