At CVS Group Plc we are the largest veterinary service provider in the UK with a multitude of business divisions, including: veterinary practices, diagnostic laboratories, pet crematoria and Animed Direct, our online business and the biggest seller of animal medicine to pet owners in the UK.

Animed Direct was established in 2010 and as an E-commerce retailer that trades medicines, pet food and other animal care products to customers across the UK, as well as managing distribution of our growing number of own-brand medicines and in-house analyser products to our 400 surgeries across the UK.

Animed Direct have over £20m annual turnover online in the UK, recently started trade in France with plans in place to expand sales across other European markets over the next 12 months.

Role Responsibilities: 

As part of our continued growth, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Web Developer to join our highly-skilled development team on a permanent position. We work with the latest technology stack, code version control and deployment processes, so there is much to learn as a professional.

If you are experienced and passionate about web development and E-commerce, this is an exciting opportunity to work and deliver results for fast-growing E-Commerce retailer in animal care sector.

Reporting into the Project Manager, you will be responsible for driving back-end development, leading transition of our highly-customised websites to Magento E-commerce platform, integrating with the internal Operations/Warehouse systems and multiple external systems. You will also be responsible to provide guidance and training for new developers joining the team in the near future.

Required skills and experience

  • Extensive experience in Object-oriented PHP web development
  • Proven experience as a Magento 1/2 back-end developer is essential
  • Experienced with either Zend or Symphony application frameworks
  • Strong experience with MVC and other best practices in programming design patterns
  • Strong experience with MySQL, database design and performance optimisation
  • Good experience with Javascript (jQuery and AngularJS in particular)
  • Strong experience with various systems API integrations
  • Working experience with HTTP and managing Apache / Nginx web servers

Desired skills

  • Good experience with Unix shell environment
  • Experience working in version control environment: Git / SVN / Subversion
  • Experience working in Test-driven design environment
  • Magento certification is highly desirable. If you are not already certified, we can help make you get one
  • Experience working on the client-side for retail E-commerce business is a bonus
