Software Development Manager - Animed Direct

As part of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Software Development Manager to join our team in a permanent position. As Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring delivery of both front-end and back-end software development as well as ensuring our platforms, including hosting and infrastructure, are maintained and enhanced.


This is a ‘hands off' development role where your past technical background will be invaluable, enabling you to understand what your team is doing and to inform how you can improve processes, delivery and implement future strategy. You will be expected to provide technical guidance/direction to the members of the development team and report software development progress to senior stakeholders.


Location: Remote-working with occasional travel (1 - 2 times a month) to our Head Office in Diss.  


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure timely delivery of front-end and back-end software development(s) on our Magento E-commerce platform
  • Ensure that our hosting and infrastructure remain current with schedules in place for updates, patches, penetration tests etc.
  • Optimisation of data storage and warehousing though a continuous review strategy.
  • Maintenance and implementation of systems to monitor live services including taking the lead in any recovery activity in the event of issues impacting service to minimise any disruption to the business
  • Provision of direct line management, technical guidance and leadership to all members of the development, QA and service management teams, identifying areas for career development and completion of one to one reviews ,performance assessments and resourcing
  • Working with the teams and senior stakeholders to document and maintain technical procedures, ensuring standard operation policies are in place and adhered to
  • Internal stakeholder management and cross team working, building and maintaining productive relationships
  • Product owner for internal projects, including the tools used internally by the Development Team to improve future efficiency, ensuring quality of service and timely delivery of changes


Key skills required:

  • Experienced team manager within an agile software development environment
  • Good working knowledge of website architecture, infrastructure and 3rd party integrations
  • Competent in producing technical documentation
  • Able to act independently with good interpersonal and communication skills for both a technical and non-technical audience and able to build effective relationships
  • Proactive and organised, able to self-manage within a changing environment
  • Experienced with digital and e-commerce platform implementations and management of hosting environments and software version control systems.
  • Preferably excellent experience of:
    • Object-oriented PHP web development
    • Magento 2 Module development and deployment
    • MySQL
    • Database design and performance optimisation
    • API integrations
    • HTTP and managing Apache / Nginx web servers
    • Magento 2 Hosting
    • PWA/React JS
    • Cloud Hosting, deployments and environment management (i.e. AWS/Google Cloud)
    • GraphQL
