Regional Health & Safety Advisor (South West UK) - Business Operations

At CVS Group we are the largest unified veterinary service provider in the UK with sites across the UK (and the Netherlands) and over 6000 employees. We are passionate about animal care and operate several key business areas; over 500 vet surgeries, laboratories, pet crematoria and a successful online business. We have doubled in size in the last three years and have continued expansion plans for the future.


We currently have two excellent opportunities for you to join our Health & Safety team as a Health & Safety Advisor.


In these vital positions, you will report into the Head of Health & Safety and will be responsible for providing expert H&S knowledge to internal stakeholders in either East Anglia and the South East of England, or the South West of England and South Wales, in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture and control occupational risk within the Group.


In these roles, your key responsibilities will include:


  • Helping to plan, implement, monitor and review protective and preventative measures in order to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
  • Carrying out Health and Safety visits, accident investigations and audits to check policies and procedures properly implemented.
  • Implementing and contributing to the health and safety strategy and the development of internal policy.
  • Leading training with managers and employees concerning health and safety issues and risks.
  • Producing relevant communications and management reports to support the promotion of a safe working environment and culture.
  • Ensuring the wellbeing of all CVS employees by highlighting any deficiencies in policy and procedure and by taking appropriate and timely action.



To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge/skills/qualifications and attributes:


  • A professional qualification in occupational health and safety, such as NEBOSH National Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Proven H&S experience in a multi-site role/environment.
  • A strong understanding of the application of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation.
  • Proven experience producing reports and developing relevant policies.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with and influence a large number of stakeholders.
  • Strong self-management, self-motivation and organisation skills.

Location: In the role, you will be home based with regular travel to CVS veterinary practices and business locations in the South West of England. A typical week will involve 1 day at home and 4 days out at practices/business locations, which will involve some overnight stays.
