Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, Mereworth, Maidstone, Kent, UK

Due to expansion, we are recruiting a surgeon with an interest in lameness.

They will work alongside our established team of three other specialist surgeons, three internal medicine diplomates, two diagnostic imaging diplomates, two sports medicine diplomates and Advanced Practitioners in equine dentistry and veterinary anaesthesia. The team is supported by three hospital interns and an excellent nursing team. A residency programme is also supported (currently we are training a surgical resident).

The hospital regularly hosts final year equine-track veterinary students from the Royal Veterinary College  undertaking intra-mural rotations. The clinic is accredited as an Equine Veterinary Hospital by the RCVS Practice Standards scheme and has attained outstanding awards in team and professional responsibility, client service, ambulatory service, in-patient service and diagnostic service. In addition to the hospital, the practice has a large and fully integrated first opinion ambulatory equine practice.

The successful applicant will need to work up lameness cases in the clinic as well as on the road. The role involves managing first opinion and referred general surgery, emergency and lameness cases.  The split of hospital:ambulatory is flexible depending on the candidate.  They will participate in the hospital surgical OOH rota, currently 1:4 full weekends and 1 night per week.  A proportion of this will be 2nd on call.  Clinical research is encouraged. The successful applicant will also be expected to provide advice and support for our interns, residents and first opinion team of vets, as well as assisting in the teaching of veterinary students undertaking externships at the hospital, and in providing CPD (both internally and externally).

Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic is a multidisciplinary equine referral centre in the Southeast of England with a wide range of referral services including Soft Tissue Surgery, Lameness and Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging (including MRI, etc. It is located in the village of Mereworth in Kent, close to mainline train stations for London, and close to the Channel Tunnel. Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic is part of CVS (UK) Ltd., the UK's largest provider of integrated veterinary services with approximately 450 clinics across UK, Netherlands and Ireland. This position would suit an experienced certificate holder or diplomate. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. Diploma holders are eligible for additional benefits. This role can be full or part time but with full rota commitment. Exact hours and working pattern has flexibility. Relocation package also available.
